Gillian began teaching various forms of dressmaking
and craft about 27 years ago (1981). She only developed her Patchwork and
Quilting skills whilst living in the remote north-west of Western
Australia as a means of meeting new people. After moving to Mandurah,
south of Perth WA, she again began teaching dressmaking, machine
skills and Patchwork. Not happy with repeating designs, Gillian began
designing her own projects, with "Australian Odyssey" being the first
and to this date the most popular pattern in the range. She became
addicted to foundation piecing and this forms a large part of her
range.
Another move to Tasmania saw her develop skills and
meet with fabulous Patchworker's and Quiltmaker's including many
interstate guests. It was one of these guests, Jenny Bowker, who
encouraged Gillian to promote her designs after viewing them.
Gillian designed the start of the "bare naked" range
whilst still in Tasmania, beginning with the Ladies.
Yet another move back to WA and situated just a few
short km's south of the city she began Deezigner Quilts in 2001. With
a selected few patterns she began with a small website and a few
classes each term. This has developed into a fun business with a focus
on design and teaching. Gillian runs a home-based business and visits
are by appointment only.
In 2005 she was encouraged by friends to meet with
Fay Dunstan, a hand dyer situated in Manjimup in the states south
west. Fay's fabrics have worked beautifully with the designs Gillian
has created.
In late 2006 Gillian had the website redesigned by Little Fish who have created this wonderful new
look and launched it in
January 2007.
Please visit again and keep informed about what's
happening at Deezigner Quilts.
Happy stitches always from
Gilly
